What is a Classroom Goose?
It all started with the popular porch goose. This is a cute life-size goose statute that people put on their front porches and change the outfits for every season or holiday. These were popular in the 80s and are making a hug comeback now.
Teachers are hopping on this trend and are using these porch geese in classrooms. They’re being used as class mascots, teaching about seasons, as a classroom management tool, a way to build class community and a way to have fun!

A classroom goose is a great way to help build your classroom community. Check out some ideas to use your goose to bond and bring you and your students together this year!
2 | Introducing Your Class Goose
Your open house is a great time to introduce your class goose to the students and parents to get your students excited about the upcoming school year.
You can write a little note next to your goose to let students know that their class goose is kind of like a classroom pet and will be providing learning and laughs all year.
This is a great time to teach students that they can look but not touch. During the open house you can invite families to take a selfie with the classroom goose!
3 | Naming Your Classroom Goose
A great way to build that sense of class community is have your students name your class goose together. You could have a brainstorm session followed by a class vote.

Another fun encouraging classroom management idea is brownie points. Here’s how this one works- First on the class menu you will write what skill the class is working on. For example, if you have a special guest the class may be working on listening as the guest is talking.
Give you classroom a goal of how many brownie points to earn. When the goose chef observes those skills, he will bake a brownie and when the class reaches their goal of brownies, they will earn a fun prize like an extra recess or brownies!

Here’s a fun way to incorporate your classroom goose with student awards. Every week or month your students can earn the golden goose award for being on their best behavior!
