My Farmhouse Kitchen Makeover on a Budget
In this post I want to show you my mini farmhouse kitchen makeover on a budget. My kitchen was in need of a mini makeover. It didn’t need a remodel because everything was fairly new and in good condition. It was just too dark and did not have a signature style. I am a huge fan of the modern farmhouse style and have incorporate this style throughout my home. So, the modern farmhouse style was the inspiration for the makeover. I was able to accomplish the entire makeover for under $500. This included all new farmhouse kitchen decor, bar stools and lighting. I will show you step by step what I did, and I will show you tons of farmhouse kitchen decor ideas and were I got everything too so you can steal the look in your kitchen.

Check out my old kitchen below. Everything is a little dark including the bar stools and there is no farmhouse charm in this kitchen. The lighting is not doing much to illuminate the space. I am very happy with my floors, cabinets and counters so, no major remodel here.
Now check out my new kitchen below. I have added new bar stools, changed out the pendant lighting, plus added tons of new farmhouse decor and accessories. I will take you step by step and show you what I did and give you farmhouse kitchen decor ideas to incorporate in your home.
Farmhouse Kitchen Makeover Lighting
One of the first things you may notice is the new lighting. I not only changed the fixtures, but I also changed out the light bulbs to these vintage ones. They give the kitchen a pretty vintage glow that creates an instant mood for the room. It is amazing what an impact that lighting makes in a room.
You will not believe how easy and how cheap this was. The new metal cage fixtures I got at Home Depot for under $20 each. This small change was the biggest bang for my buck. We simply unscrewed the old glass pendants and replaced them with these ones. We did shut off the power to the light source first to be safe but there was no electrical work involved. I think it gives it and industrial feel perfect for the modern farmhouse vibes. Here you can find a similar pair.
New Barstools for the Kitchen
My next purchase that had a dramatic impact on the space was new kitchen barstools. As you can see the old ones are dark and drab. The new white rustic barstools bring a little bit of that farmhouse style that I crave. They really brighten up the space too. Below are the exact ones that I got from Amazon. Click on the link below for details.

Yes, I am obsessed with my new scale that doubles as a fruit holder. I found this one at Hobby Lobby but here check out where you can get a similar one with the same farmhouse style.
Custom DIY Lazy Susan
This custom lazy susan features my last name, Forest. Yes, it is homemade! I will share with you in a future post exactly how you can make your own. It is not as hard as you think! This is one of my favorite kitchen accessories. We will put it on the counter or the kitchen table at mealtime for all the condiments and napkins. We will even use it during family game night to hold game pieces and cards.
Farmhouse Kitchen Decor Ideas With Greenery
Adding greenery is a great way to bring nature to your space and instantly add warmth and interest. It goes great with that farmhouse style. Here are a couple of ways that I added greenery to my kitchen decor.
First, I added these four cute glass vases in a small wooden box. This is an easy DIY project if you hit up your local craft store. What I put in mine are hydrangeas from the garden that I dried. I love the pretty color that hydrangeas get when they are dried.
Next, I added this miniature farmhouse wreath that I got at Etsy. You can find it here, and it comes with this cute gingham ribbon, perfect for that farmhouse style.
Farmhouse Kitchen Decor Ideas Menu Sign
The menu sign is not only cute but it helps keep me organized during my busy weeks. My daughter loves to be involved by writing out the daily menu with me every week. No more questions mom what’s for dinner tonight! (Ok, they still ask 😊 but now you can say look at the menu.)
