Choosing a Calming Color Scheme

The number one way to make a cozy classroom is to choose a calming color scheme. There are several ways to do this. You could choose an all-neutral color scheme, choose colors found in nature or use light pastel colors. Check out some amazing classrooms below to show you how to incorporate a calming color scheme into your class this year.

Choose a Neutral Color Scheme

Kiley, a kindergarten teacher, chose a neutral color scheme of natural tans, and greys to create a calming atmosphere in her classroom. If you want to do the same pick light neutral colors like whites, beiges and greys.

Incorporate Pastels into Your Color Scheme

Laura, a first-grade teacher, shows us how chic a pastel color pallet looks in her classroom. She chose a combo of light pink and mint green which creates a peaceful classroom vibe. To create this look in your classroom choose two or three of your favorite pastels and incorporate them throughout the room.

Here’s another example of a soft pastel and natural color scheme. The light colors help to brighten this once dark classroom that has no windows. Concrete walls got a face lift with striped paint to really make this classroom stand out.

Use a Natural Color Scheme in Your Classroom

Try incorporating colors that you would find in nature into your color scheme to create a tranquil classroom. Kiley, a teacher from Arkansas, uses shades of green, browns, and tans to create a cozy and homey classroom for her students. Get outside and take a look at nature to get inspired for your classroom color scheme.

Class Decoration Ideas Using Natural Elements

One of the ideas I’m loving right now is adding nature to your classroom décor. Pretty greenery like eucalyptus, succulents and cacti are showing up in themes everywhere. Teachers are adding plants, vines, and earth tones to their classroom decorations. Check out some of my favorite ideas below to get inspired to add nature to your classroom this year.

Add Nature with a Wall Mural

Add Plants to Your Classroom

Adding plants to rooms has shown to boost moods, reduce stress and add life to your space. Who wouldn’t want that in their classroom? All the plants really make this classroom come to life. You could even have students help care for the plants as a classroom job.

Start Small with a Tiny Potted Plant

Not all of us can handle as many plants as the previous classroom I just showed you. If you don’t have a green thumb start small with a low maintenance plant like a succulent. I wouldn’t judge you for adding one of those real looking fake plants either.
