Command Center Design Ideas

The first thing to think about when creating your command center is what kind of design you want. This will depend on how much space you have and what you want to include to get your life organized. Some of the things to consider including are calendars, a place for mail and papers, keys, whiteboard, chalkboard, bulletin board, clocks, hooks or whatever else will help organize your daily life. Check out some design ideas below to get inspired.

Linen Closet Organization Your Step-by-Step Guide

So, you want to organize your linen closet? Well, you’ve come to the right place! This is your guide to linen closet organization. I’ve gathered tons of inspiration for you, and I’ll share with you tips and tricks to maximize your space and make it look amazing. Plus, I’ll show you all of my favorite finds for your closet.

This post may contain affiliate links. This means that if you make a purchase using my link, I make a small commission –at no cost to you. Read the full disclosure here.

Plan Your Linen Closet Design

The first thing to do when you make the decision to organize your linen closet is plan your design. First, assess how many towels, sheets, and other items that you want to fit in this closet. This is the time to get rid of or donate what you no longer need.

Next, consider what you need to access the most often and be sure to plan a spot for those items on easy to reach shelves. Be mindful of large or heavy items that might work best on lower shelves. You don’t want to grab a huge heavy basket off the top shelf.

At this point you can start to plan how many containers or baskets you’ll need to corral all the stuff. Check out these gorgeous closets below to get some ideas.

To help simplify invest in high quality white towels for all your bathrooms. That way they can all be interchangeable and you can do one white load with bleach every week.

Baskets on the bottom shelf are a great storage solution for items that you need to access regularly like toilet paper. Here are similar natural rope baskets.

When designing your closet make it look attractive by choosing baskets or containers that you love and that way you’ll be motivated to keep it tidy, especially if you have clear doors!

Carve out a spot for cleaning supplies in the middle of the closet so that you can easily reach them when needed.

When you’re planning your linen closet organization and deciding how many baskets you’ll need group like items together and consider if it’ll work for your design to stack baskets on top of each other.

If you have a linen closet this large, first I’m jealous and second, take your time to plan out your design. Take an inventory of what you have before you start shopping for baskets and containers so that you can create a space that works for your lifestyle. Good organization should make your life easier!

Create mini sections for like items. For example, place all of your laundry essentials on one shelf. This’ll make it easier to find what you need.

Linen Closet Towel Storage Options

The number one thing in our closets to organize is towels. There are tons of different options for folding and storing them. You can fold them in half, thirds, quarters or roll them. It often looks best to do a mix of several different options. You’ll want to experiment to find the best folds for the space you have. Check out some different fold options in these pretty closets below to get you started on making the most of your linen closet organization.

Might as well take some lessons in folding towels from Joanna Gaines herself! She uses the trifold method. When you do this the edges of the towel are not visible and are not sticking out at all. To do this you just fold your towel into thirds vertically and then fold them horizontally again in thirds as well.

Another pro tip is to add interest to the linen closet by varying which way the towels face.

Add even more variety by rolling some of the towels too.

When you have smaller hand and face towels you can place them in a small basket or container to keep them neat and tidy.

Linen Closet Organization with Baskets

Let’s talk more about baskets! You’ll want to consider how many baskets, what size and what style will work best for your closet. Baskets are a great way to corral the smaller items. Take a look at these amazing linen closets below that have baskets as a central part of their design.

Group your items into like categories and take inventory of how much you have before you start shopping for your baskets.

Coordinated baskets will give your linen closet a cohesive feel. They don’t have to be all the same size and shape but you can pick one color or material like wicker to coordinate your closet.

Consider what feeling you want when you open your closet. This choice of bamboo baskets gives the linen closet a spa like feel.

Felt and the wire baskets coordinate with each other and here the bamboo labels really tie the whole look together. We’ll talk more about labels soon.

A couple of large baskets work great at the bottom of your closet for larger items.

Try using oversized baskets without lids to help encourage you and your family to put things back where they belong. The easier for you in your daily life the more likely you’ll stick with your linen closet organization plan.

Living Room Arrangement Ideas

One of the first things you’ll want to think about for your living room design is the placement of the furniture. This will depend on your space, the main activity of the room and how many focal points the room has. The living room focal point is usually a fireplace, a TV, or a view. Take out a piece of paper and sketch out a floor plan idea and make sure the function makes sense. Then start experimenting with your favorite layouts. Check out some of the best living room ideas below for furniture placement inspiration.

IMAGES SOURCE | LILYPADCOTTAGE

A tip from this living room is to not put your furniture against the walls. Bring it close enough for people sitting in all of your furniture to have a conversation without shouting at each other.

IMAGES SOURCE | DIYFRENCHFARMHOUSE

Consider what the focal point of your room is. Here it is the TV and fireplace. Then make sure every seat has a great view of it.

IMAGES SOURCE | WESTWINGFR

One of the keys to consider with your layout is what will you be doing in the space. This arrangement creates the perfect space to have conversations and enjoy the beautiful view.

IMAGES SOURCE | SWEETHOMEINTHEBURBS

Here’s a great example of furniture placement with a variety of furniture. If you have a large area rug place your seating so that it is at the edge to the rug with the coffee table in the center.

Living Room Ideas with a Fireplace

Do you have a fireplace in your living room? If so lucky you! You have an instant focal point for your room to consider when arranging your furniture. If you’re a little stuck on how to do that then check out these living ideas below. Plus, I have included some inspiration to style your fireplace mantel too.

IMAGES SOURCE | FULLHEARTEDHOME

If you have a TV in your room too, I love the look of adding it to the same wall as your fireplace. Here it looks seamless on the chunky mantle. Read on for more ideas of incorporating a TV into your living room design.

IMAGES SOURCE | LIFEONVIRGINIASTREET

Instead of a TV above the fireplace here they have placed a beautiful piece of art that ties in the colors and feeling of the room.

IMAGES SOURCE | ELECTRIC_GOODS

This gorgeous fireplace brings in the charm of the room with the beautiful Moroccan tiles.

IMAGES SOURCE | SBKLIVING

A dramatic floor to ceiling fireplace like this is gorgeous focal point to build a room around.

Fireplace Mantle Styling Ideas

Below are the best ideas to style your fireplace mantel that I promised you. Here are a few tips. Collect personal items that you love that fit the style of your home. Be sure to vary the heights of the items for interest. If it doesn’t look quite right try clustering items in groups of 3, this will always look amazing. Get some inspiration below.

IMAGES SOURCE | KIRA_TURNER

Here the TV blends with the other fireplace mantle décor and does not stand out in the space.

IMAGES SOURCE | KIRA_TURNER

The mantle décor blend seamlessly with the bookshelves to create an entire wall with personality and character that set the tone for the room.

Living Room Design Around a TV

For many of us the main activity in our living room is watching TV so it makes sense to design your room around it. Below are a few living room ideas to pull off your stunning design around a large TV.

This shows contrary to popular belief your TV can actually add to the design of the room when done right. The TV here just adds to the symmetry of this wall as well as the contrast of the light and dark objects.

IMAGES SOURCE | MAKE.MYDAY.BRIGHTER

If you can find a way to hide the wires and your cable box then hanging your TV gives a seamless finish to the room.

Don’t be afraid to decorate above and to the sides of your TV. This helps to not make your TV standout by itself.

Here is another example of a TV mounted above a fireplace that blends into the design of the room.

Symmetrical Design Living Room Ideas

There’s something so satisfying about a symmetrical design in your living room. Our eyes and brain appreciate symmetry. Check out some inspiration below and then copy the symmetrical design ideas in your living room.

If your room naturally has symmetric features like these bookcases and this ceiling then play this up by adding symmetry with your furniture as well.

Adding matching accent chairs and ottomans are an easy way to add symmetry to your room.

When we think about creating a symmetrical design in our living room, we often think about the furniture only. But you can create this symmetrical feel with your home décor as well like they did here.

Picking the Right Couch for Your Living Room

One of the most important decisions you will face when designing your living room is what couch to pick. You’ll want to pick something that works for your lifestyle and your family. Think about comfort, style, couch shape, and materials. I always start by perusing the furniture stores and taking dimensions and pics of all my favorites. Then I go home and see how it would fit in my living room. Check out some inspiration below of living rooms centered around their beautiful couches.

Here is a great example of proper furniture selection for your space. They are working with a small space but have maximized seating with this sectional. I love sectionals because they instantly create a cozy feeling in your living room.

Color is an important choice when deciding on your furniture selection. Even if you love that all white look if you have small kids and dogs that might not be the best pick. Instead try something darker like grey, brown or green.

If you want more seating options then a couch but don’t have room for a large sectional, a couch with a chaise lounge is a great option.

One of the benefits of having two couches as opposed to a sectional is you can place a side table between the couches for a lamp, books and your morning coffee.

Living Room Ideas with an Accent Wall

I love to create an accent wall in a living room. It creates that wow factor, that we all want, when you first walk into the room. There are tons of ways to do this. You can use brick, wood, wall decals, wallpaper, or the easiest option is to paint one wall a different color. If you’re thinking of adding an accent wall to your living room read on to get some ideas of how to pull it off with a wow.

Brick is a great option for an accent wall and if you want to keep it neutral go for a white brick like they did here. For most of us adding brick to a wall seems a little daunting. Don’t worry they also have brick wallpaper that looks amazing. Here is one similar to the picture above.

The most bang for your buck when doing an accent wall is to paint one wall a different color. If you want to make a statement, choose a dark color and then contrast it with light furniture and accessories.

Wall decals are a fun way to create an accent wall with less commitment than the other methods that I showed you. If you find simple shapes and plan your spacing it can look just like wallpaper.

Photo Collage Wall in Your Living Room

This next idea is similar to the one above but this time you are creating an entire photo collage wall. These are so fun to make! First, you’ll want to start gathering your favorite art and photos. They can be all different sizes. It looks fabulous if you find something that ties them all together. For example, the same color frame, all black and white photos, or all modern art pieces. When you have it all together you will want to experiment with the layout before you place it on the wall. One way to do this is to use paper the same sizes as the frames and tape it on the wall to see how it looks before you start nailing. Check out some inspiration below to get you started.

Choose photos of the same theme or colors to create a cohesive feeling with your photo wall.

My Farmhouse Bathroom Makeover

By Kristen | October 14, 2021

My Farmhouse Bathroom Makeover

One of my recent projects was a farmhouse bathroom makeover. My guest bathroom is one of the last rooms in my house that didn’t have a farmhouse touch yet so I decided to bring that charm into the bathroom too. Before I start a new project, I always begin by searching the internet for inspiration and then do a ton of shopping. What I discovered is there are six ingredients to create the perfect farmhouse bathroom. In this post I’ll take you on that makeover journey with me by showing you my inspiration, the best farmhouse décor I found while shopping, and of course how my bathroom turned out! Hopefully you’ll get inspired to do your own bathroom makeover.

My Farmhouse Bathroom Makeover

Ok, so now that I’ve shown you the inspiration, let’s see how it turned out. I spared you the before pics, you didn’t want to see those anyway!

My Farmhouse Bathroom Shelves

I loved the idea of the shelves over the toilet. I got these ones and then the fun part was adding the decor! The candle is from T.J Maxx. I dried the hydrangeas from the yard and put them in these pretty little buckets. There were so many cute bathroom signs to choose from. Here is the one I choose from Etsy. I found the bless you tissue box on Amazon.

When you’re decorating you should look around your house at what you already have and see if you can incorporate it into your décor. Everyday bathroom items work great as décor. I rolled up some hand towels we had and then I added one of our mason jars with cotton balls.

My Farmhouse Bathroom Sign

I thought the wall across from the toilet would be perfect for one of those cute farmhouse signs. I fell in love with this vintage looking one from Etsy. This cute mini lambs ear wreath is also from Etsy, and what I love most about it is it smells amazing. You can actually choose from tons of different scents! I choose vanilla.

My Bathroom Makeover Farmhouse Shower Curtain

I chose a shower curtain that is light and bright with both stripes and tassels, which is a farmhouse win in my book. The shower curtain and the bath rug are from Target. Here is a similar curtain and bath mat.

I found this simple chicken wire basket that is sitting on the top of the toilet on Amazon and it’s perfect to hold a few rolls of TP.

My Farmhouse Bathroom Towels

I love the texture on the towels and the tassels give them that farmhouse feel. I got these ones from Target, here are similar ones.

My Farmhouse Bathroom Accessories

I also had a lot of fun adding the farmhouse décor to the counter. This is something I’ll always be changing up. This is a great place to add seasonal touches throughout the year. The hand towels are again from Target, you can find similar ones here.

I got the glass vase with the rope design from Home Goods, here are similar ones. The faux flowers were from Hobby Lobby. Small dainty flowers give a farmhouse touch especially in glass or rustic vases. White lavender would look great too or eucalyptus leaves.

I love a group of glass jars in the bathroom because it’s functional and pretty. I filled mine with Q-tips, cotton balls and bath salts.

My final touch is one of my favorites. I created a little hand wash station. Most of the bath soaps I got from this cute little Etsy shop. I scored this little tray at TJ Maxx, and here are similar soap dispensers.

If you want to steal the style of my farmhouse bathroom below are all my finds.

FARMHOUSE BATHROOM DÉCOR | WHERE TO FIND

ONE | FRESH SOAP & WATER SIGN

TWO | MINI SCENTED FARMHOUSE WREATH

THREE | BLESS YOU TISSUE BOX COVER

FOUR | FARMHOUSE TOWEL SET

FIVE | SOAP & LOTION DISPENSERS

SIX | SET OF 2 RUSTIC WALL SHELVES

SEVEN | SET OF 3 SMALL METAL BUCKETS

EIGHT | MALE & FEMALE BATHROOM SIGN

NINE | SET OF 2 GLASS JARS

Well, that completed my farmhouse bathroom makeover. Like I said earlier, I just made six changes to steal that farmhouse style. I added shelving, a shower curtain, a TP holder, towels, a farmhouse sign and farmhouse décor. I’m sure I’ll keep adding little touches because that’s what I do. But I’m really happy with how it turned out. Hope you got a few ideas and are ready to take on a farmhouse bathroom makeover of your own. If you like this post please share it!
